The 2026 flag stamp is a photograph of a knit flag - a detail from a Polo Ralph Lauren sweater introduced in 1989. Beneath it sit 1776 and 2026 in red for the nation's 250th anniversary. Using a piece of knitwear rather than a flying flag is a real departure for the series: the stars are stitched, the stripes are courses of yarn, and the whole thing reads as an object someone owns rather than a symbol on a pole.
