Four stamps carrying the words thank you in cursive, with a floral line running through and around the lettering, and the whole thing picked out in gold foil. Dana Tanamachi drew the calligraphy by hand before it was finished for print - she is a lettering artist by trade, and the difference between drawn letters and a typeface is visible at this size, particularly where the strokes thicken through the curves.

Foil is the reason to look at these in person. It catches the light on the envelope in a way that flat printing does not, which is a small thing that does a lot of work on a card someone is about to open. Obvious uses: thank-you notes after a wedding, a funeral, a job interview, a gift. Businesses use them on client correspondence, where two words already printed on the stamp save writing them badly.
