Ten flowers that hold up through cold weather: camellia, crocus, hellebore, winterberry, pansy, plum blossom, grape hyacinth, daffodil, ranunculus and winter aconite, which also appears on the booklet cover. Gregory Manchess painted them - digital studies first, then finished in oils on panel - with Derry Noyes as art director. The oils show at stamp size, particularly in the way snow sits on the petals. The set exists for the same reason the Winter Scenes booklet does: there is a long stretch of cold months that has nothing to do with Christmas, and most seasonal stamps ignore it. These carry January and February mail, get-well cards, sympathy notes, and the correspondence gardeners send each other when nothing is growing. Nothing in the booklet commits to a holiday, so a leftover book is still usable in March. Booklets of 20, ten designs, two of each.
